The fact that the chargers for cell phones are not compatible, according to a press release of the EU is not only a big inconvenience for users, but also presents a major environmental problem. Users wishing to change phones generally have to buy a new charger and throw the old one even if it is in good condition. In response to consumer demands to have a universal charger, the European Commission has called on producers to agree on a technical solution that would make it compatible chargers for various brands.
Leading manufacturers of mobile phones and smartphones are committed to ensuring the compatibility of chargers for data-enabled mobile phones based on micro-USB connector. The agreement was drawn up in June 2009 and signed by Apple, Emblaze Mobile, Huawei, LGE, Motorola, NEC, Nokia, Qualcomm, RIM, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Alcatel, Texas Instruments and Atmel.

Then in 2011 consumers will have a universal charger with micro-USB connector.
